Aniseed (Pimpinella anisum): Aniseed is used for coughs and colds. Hippocrates, the father of medicine, recommended Aniseed to help clear mucus from the respiratory system. It is a medicine used in hard, dry coughs where expectoration (discharge of phlegm) is difficult. Aniseed has a beneficial action on the bronchial tubes, for bronchitis and spasmodic asthma. It has also been used to ease whooping cough in infants.
Licorice (Glycyrrhiza glabra): Licorice root is used for dry cough, hoarseness of the throat, wheezing and shortness of breath. It nourishes the adrenal glands, stimulates immune cells and helps fight disease causing bacteria and fungi, as well as stimulating the body’s anti-viral functions.
Care should be taken when drinking sage during pregnancy and lactation, as it may interfere with breast milk production.
Licorice Root may increase blood pressure and is contra-indicated for people with issues related to high blood pressure.
